1995
Continental was founded in 1995 as the U.S. subsidiary of Girbau. The company began its journey on Bowen Street in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Founding president Leonard Kafer worked with the first employees, Mike Floyd and Laurie Kilgore, to build the business from the ground up. From the beginning, Continental has been shaped by its people and strengthened by strong relationships. The company has always been guided by the belief that it is more than equipment.
1999
In 1999, marked a major milestone with the groundbreaking of a new, larger facility. This event represented the beginning of a new era for our company and drew people from across the region, including customers, partners, community members and supporters, who came together to celebrate the growth of our organization. The new building laid the foundation for our expansion and allowed us to broaden our capabilities so we could better serve the needs of our customers.
2003-2005
In 2003, we further expanded the 1999 building to accommodate the continued growth of our organization. We launched Continental Creative Services,, a full-service marketing agency designed to support any size project or campaign in 2005. CCS was created to simplify the marketing process for our customers by offering everything from single-project assistance to complete, budget-friendly marketing solutions.
2008
By 2008, our reach expanded across the country with the opening of Continental Girbau West in Santa Fe Springs, California. This new location strengthened our national presence and allowed us to provide faster, more localized service and support to customers on the West Coast.
2009-2011
2009 through 2011, we experienced growth across several areas. In 2009, we entered the industrial laundry segment with the launch of Girbau Industrial. In 2010, we acquired Express Laundry Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, strengthening our involvement in the vended laundry market. Then, in 2011, we introduced Sports Laundry Systems a brand dedicated to offering effective, hygiene-focused laundry solutions tailored to athletic programs and sports facilities.
2014-2015
Between 2014 and 2015, we strengthened our brand lineup and product offerings by entering a North American agreement with LG to represent their commercial laundry products. During this period, we also launched the Poseidon Textile Care brand, featuring the ED-Dryer to the North American market, providing customers with a premium, high-performance textile care solution.
2020
In 2020, we proudly celebrated 25 years in business, a milestone that reflected decades of hard work, innovation and a commitment to providing trusted laundry solutions to a wide range of customers. It was also an opportunity to recognize the people and partnerships that have supported our growth and success.
Today
Today, we operate as Continental Laundry Solutions, a unified organization built on a long history of service and expertise. We now support four strong brands and employ more than 50 dedicated team members. As we continue to grow, we remain focused on delivering innovative products, exceptional service and comprehensive solutions to customers across the country and beyond.
