Northern Michigan University (NMU) has joined the ranks of elite collegiate and professional sports programs upgrading to Sports Laundry Systems (SLS) — cutting laundry processing time in half and keeping athletes in top gear.
After battling frequent breakdowns, NMU’s equipment team made the switch, replacing aging hard-mount washers with EH-Series soft-mount washers and high-performance dryers. The result? Faster cycles, greater efficiency and unmatched programmability.
Faster Turnaround, Less Downtime
“Before, student workers could only handle laundry for four or five teams per shift,” said Equipment Manager Hans Andel. “Now, they get through seven.” With speeds of up to 354 G-force extract, NMU’s new 70- and 90-pound EH-Series washers remove significantly more moisture, slashing dry times for 125-pound dryers. All told, NMU’s new Sports Laundry System processes laundry for nine teams.
The impact? Loads that once took 50 minutes to wash and over an hour to dry now finish in just 30-minute wash cycles and 30-45 minutes of drying. For delicate uniforms often air-dried, this moisture removal is a game-changer, according to Andel.
While the new machines offer slightly larger basket capacities, it’s the high extract speeds that amp laundry productivity, according to Seth Willer of Laundry Systems of Wisconsin. Willer worked with NMU to properly size and install the new laundry equipment.
Smarter, Simpler Laundry with Advanced Control
The EH-Series washers allow NMU to customize wash cycles for everything from towels to high-end uniforms. Operators simply load, select a program and press start — detergents, sanitizers and fabric brighteners are automatically injected for optimal cleaning and fabric care.
